I am doing analogue photography 35mm, medium format and large format. I buy film from eBay and whatever my local photographer friend has left. Looking for E6 and C 41 chemicals now, tried Tetenal India (then now only sell pesticides!) and Champion photographics (now only sell paper and paper processing chemicals) even contacted Fujifilm India in Gurgaon (they asked to send an e mail enquiry to which they have not responded in over a month. So any help to buy E6 and C41 chemicals would be highly appreciated, regards Ashish

Hi Devyani. See the Delhi section of this page. Also there are many online stores selling 35mm film rolls in India. Expired film is always fun. You get unexpected results, pretty much like using certain Instagram filters. The grain and base fog is generally high. Sometimes you may get a magenta or blue-purple colour cast. Sometimes, if one corner of the roll was partially exposed to light, may have a higher density. It is fun.
For decades, Cintel has been the leader in film scanning technology. Now the new Cintel Scanner G3 HDR+ advances the art of film scanning even further! The new Cintel Scanner G3 HDR+ features a completely redesigned light source that allows real time HDR film scanning in Ultra HD. The new model also retains the great features of the Cintel Scanners, such as digital servos, gentle capstan drives, advanced color science, 35mm and 16mm film support and an elegant architectural design that can even be wall mounted! The Cintel Scanner is perfect for unlocking vast archive film libraries for conversion into new Ultra HD masters so they can be uploaded for streaming and online distribution!
The Cintel Scanner includes a 35mm film gate, film spools, a set of four cleaning rollers, desk mount feet, and DaVinci Resolve 12 Studio software. Cintel transfers film directly to DaVinci Resolve which gives you the power to edit film rolls back together, scans to be color-graded, reframed, noise-reduced, and audio-extracted. Using DaVinci Resolve to operate the scanner means you have much more creative control than a simple telecine because DaVinci Resolve has many more features than is possible to do in hardware.
Watch out for the difference between developed and undeveloped 35mm negative film. Strips of brown or black and white images in groups of four to six are negatives that can be scanned. Any film still inside a metal or plastic cartridge MUST BE developed. If you open unprocessed film, you will expose it to light and ruin the images.
Since 2002, the industry has standardized the way films are screened at movie theaters. To the chagrin of hardcore film lovers, most theaters no longer project 35mm film. These days, digital screenings are standard.
Pratidwandi (The Adversary)Satyajit Ray1970, 1h49, IndiaPresented by NFDC - National Film Archive of India, the film is restored under National Film Heritage Mission, a project undertaken by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Government of India. The original 35mm Camera Negative, which was scanned in 4K on ARRISCAN XT, and the original 35mm Sound Negative were provided by producer Ms. Purnima Dutta for this restoration. Few portions of the negative were damaged and were instead scanned from a 35mm Release Print. The restoration was carried out by Prime Focus Technologies, Mumbai, and grading was supervised by renowned Indian cinematographer, Mr. Sudeep Chatterjee.
Yes! 35mm is still made and is by far the most popular film format that we sell. 35mm is still made by a few of the big dogs in film such as Kodak, Ilford and Fujifilm as well as lots of lovely indie brands such as Film Washi, Dubblefilm and revolog.
You can also buy 35mm film online, how modern! Who sells 35mm film? There are lots of internet avenues you can explore to find your 35mm of choice. If you live in North America then you could check out the Film Photography Store - run by Mike Raso who also heads up one of the best and longest-running analogue photography podcasts (the Film Photography Podcast). In Australia we hear wonderful things about FilmNeverDie. In Asia we know - and love - the team behind Camera Film Photo.
And of course here in Europe you can buy your film from Analogue Wonderland! We stock more than 120 different 35mm films, offer letterbox friendly packaging, tracked shipping and you will be supporting an independent family business.
If you are looking for expired film you could try Expired Film Club, this is a brilliant online store started by our friend Miles! Expired film can give your images a really cool, grungy feel to them with super grainy shots. The results can be unpredictable but it is always fun to experiment!
Photographic film is a strip or sheet (a strip in the case of 35mm) of transparent film base. The base is normally made of an acetate or plastic material and is coated on one side with a gelatin emulsion. This emulsion contains teeny-tiny light sensitive silver halide crystals, that when exposed to light capture an image, which is then brought out through another chemical process later on *Wonderlab has entered the chat*
So how is 35mm made? Photographic film is built up in multiple layers. Firstly the emulsion layer is made by dissolving pure silver in nitric acid to form silver nitrate crystals. These are mixed with other chemicals to form silver halide grains. This is the magical layer of the film that helps us achieve beautiful exposures.
The next stage is to allow the film to dry, which takes about an hour. It is then ready to be sliced down to size and run through a perforator machine which punches the sprocket holes into the film. The film is then loaded into 35mm canisters and ready for your favourite 35mm camera to go out and take some beautiful photographs!
The only time your 35mm should be exposed to light is when you are taking your photograph. Photographic film is extremely sensitive and any accidental exposure can lead to blank negatives and therefore no photographs.
There are many reasons as to why 35mm film is the most popular format of choice: it is a very user friendly format, takes the most amount of exposures and comes in a wide variety of styles, colours and aesthetics to choose from.
The format and physicality of 35mm film makes it very popular. The small metal canister it comes in makes it very user friendly, the canister contains the film and minimises the risk of light leaks or accidental exposure. It is small, compact and much simpler to load and unload than other film formats such as 120 or large format film.
Finding 35mm film to buy and finding places to develop your 35mm is a similar story. There are a few highstreet labs left such as Snappy Snaps and Max Spielmann but a lot of the big developing chains have either shut down or dramatically reduced their branches. You may find a branch (even some supermarket chains) that offer film developing but in reality they usually send off your films and do this process out of house, so the turnaround time can be 2-3 weeks.
Yes, 35mm film can be converted to digital! After your 35mm film is developed there are multiple ways to digitise it. At the WonderLab we use a Fuji Frontier scanner, this machine can be fed whole rolls of film at a time. It works by taking quick digital photos of each frame, which are then edited and colour corrected on photoshop as part of the next stage.

Many new film photographers in Malaysia or travellers might be asking the same question, where can I buy 35mm camera films in Malaysia? You have come to the right place let me enlighten you a bit and share some of my favourite platforms to buy film rolls in Malaysia. The demand for film stocks in Malaysia has been increasing recently as many new photographers including me try to get a hands-on film camera and explore the unique colour tone of each film stock. While the price of 35mm film stocks is considered expensive compared to previous years, many photographers still want to buy and shoot films nowadays.
The best way to buy 35mm camera films in Malaysia is to purchase them online, at a camera shop or bulked roll film. As for me, I would prefer to shop online on Shopee or Lazada for my favourite films. Usually, I will buy all my favourite Alien films Kodak Vision3 250D & 500T on Shopee at a very affordable price from Lucid Film Shop or buy through film sellers on Facebook.
